SERIES AT A GLANCE: The Flying Squirrels will try to get back on the winning track when they take on the Reading Phillies in the opener of a three-game series at The Diamond tonight. On Sunday afternoon, Juan Perez went 2-for-4 with a home run and matched his career high with four RBIs and Daniel Mayora hit a home run and scored three runs but it was not enough as the Erie defeated the Flying Squirrels 7-6 at Jerry Uht Park. Richmond jumped out to a 5-0 on the strength of consecutive RBI singles from Mark Minicozzi and Perez in the first inning and a three-run home run from Perez in the 3rd. But the SeaWolves struck back with a three-run home run from Bryan Pounds in the bottom of the fourth and four runs off the Flying Squirrels bullpen, capped by a two-run eighth inning that gave Erie a 7-6 lead it would not relinquish. Erie reliever Robbie Weinhardt (1-2) earned the win after tossing two scoreless innings. Richmond reliever Edwin Quirarte (3-1) was charged with his first loss of the season and Bruce Rondon pitched a scoreless ninth inning to pick up his 11th save of the season. The Flying Squirrels went 5-5 against Reading in 2011 including a 2-1 mark at The Diamond. Richmond is 19-24 all-time against the R-Phils and the club is 10-6 all-time in the River City.
The two teams will meet 16 times in 2012, 7 times in Reading and 9 times in Richmond. The R-Phils claimed the opening series by winning two out of three games between the clubs at The Diamond in mid-April (4/16-4/18). Reading also took two out of three from Richmond at FirstEnergy Stadium (4/24-4/26) and three out of four in Reading (6/26-6/29). Richmond swept a three-game series between the two clubs just before the 2012 All-Star break (7/7-7/9). This season series between the two teams will conclude at the end of this three-game set.

Westcott did not enjoy the same level of success with the Flying Squirrels however, as he compiled a 3-3 mark with a 5.13 ERA in the second half of the season. He owns a record of 38-14 with a 3.40 ERA in 86 career minor league appearances, including 78 starts. The Chalmette, LA native was selected by the Giants in the 30th round of the 2009 June Draft out of Belhaven (MS) College.

He was named the Florida State League's Pitcher-of-the-Week for the week of April 16-23. In his last start, Colvin allowed five hits and six earned runs along with five walks and three strikeouts in 4.2 innings pitched at Dunedin July 25. He took the loss in Clearwater's 9-6 setback. Tonight's game will be Colvin's first start against Richmond. Colvin spent the entire 2011 season with Clearwater. He went 3-8 with a 4.71 ERA in 22 appearances, including 21 starts. Colvin has a career record of 14-22 with a 4.05 ERA in 73 appearances, including 66 starts. He was selected by the Phillies in the seventh round of the 2009 June Draft out of St. Thomas More (LA) High School.
THE REAL DON JUAN: Flying Squirrels outfielder Juan Perez enjoyed a banner series at Erie's Jerry Uht Park last weekend.
Perez went 7-for-18 (.389) with two home runs, seven RBIs and four runs scored in the four-game set. In Thursday's series opener, Perez hit an RBI single in the top of the 15th, which drove in the winning run in Richmond's 7-6 win. He posted multi-hit games in each of the final three games of the series and he homered in the final two games (7/28-7/29). In Sunday's series finale, Perez went 2-for-4 with a home run and he matched his career-high with four RBIs. In his last ten games, Perez is hitting .308 (12-for-39) with two home runs and seven RBIs.
