Harrisburg Senators News Release
The Harrisburg Senators and Binghamton Mets hooked up in an old-fashioned pitcher's duel on Tuesday night with the B-Mets coming out on top 3-2. Danny Rosenbaum started for the Sens and looked like the pitcher that dominated the Eastern League for the first two months, going six innings and allowing just two earned runs on six hits and tossing two double-plays. Unfortunately for Rosenbaum, he ran into top New York Mets prospect Zack Wheeler who struck out 11 in 6.2 innings earning the win.
The Senators came within an eyelash of turning a triple play in the first inning. The B-Mets had runners at first and second when Wilmer Flores hit a ground ball to third that Sean Nicol took to the bag, then threw to second for the second out and the relay by Jose Lozada to first missed tripling up Flores by a half-step. Jeffrey Marte followed with a two-run double to plate Flores giving the B-Mets a 1-0 lead.
The Sens came right back in the second to tie the game. Zach Walters doubled leading off the inning and Tim Pahuta followed with a sharp single to left moving Walters to third. Sean Nicol drove in Walters with a sac fly to tie the game. In the fourth, Pahuta gave the Sens a 2-1 lead with a line-drive solo home run to left, his 13th on the season.
Binghamton tied the game in the bottom of the fourth on three straight hits and a ground out. They also had a runner thrown out at home. In the sixth, they took a 3-2 when Flores scored on a two-out error.
From there, Wheeler and the B-Mets bullpen took over eleven Senators over the final four innings. In the ninth, though, with two outs, Sean Nicol and pinch-hitter Justin Bloxom both singled to prolong the inning for Jose Lozada, but Lozada struck out to end the game.
The Senators struck out a season-high 17 times in the game and dropped their fifth straight and fell to 52-58 with the loss.
Zach Walters and Tim Pahuta both had two hits in the loss.
The second game of the series is Wednesday night at 6:35 p.m. with RH Kevin Pucetas on the hill for the Sens. The game can be heard on 1460am The Ticket, on the Internet through the Senators website, and on all mobile devices with the iHeart App beginning at 6:15 p.m.
