New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release
MANCHESTER, N.H. - The Toronto Blue Jays, parent club of the New Hampshire Fisher Cats, announced today that they have selected the contract of former Fisher Cats outfielder Moises Sierra. He outfielder promoted to the major leagues after the Blue Jays traded away a pair of former Fisher Cats - Travis Snider and Marcus Thames - before the trade deadline on Tuesday. Sierra will join the team in Seattle, and will become the seventh player this season, and the 59th overall, to debut in the major leagues after having played for the Fisher Cats.
Sierra heads to the big leagues after putting together a strong season with Triple-A Las Vegas. The 23-year-old Dominican Republic native was hitting .289 for the 51s, smacking 17 home runs in 100 games. Sierra also had 16 doubles, a triple, 62 runs, and seven stolen bases. He was playing stellar defense, committing just four errors while tallying 10 outfield assists.
Sierra made his Fisher Cats debut in 2009, giving fans a glimpse of what was to come by hitting .353 with a home run and six RBI in just 8 games. After missing most of 2010, Sierra rebounded with an All-Star season for the Eastern League Champions in 2011. He hit .277 and posted career highs with 18 home runs and 67 runs batted in. In 133 games, he scored 81 times and recorded 11 outfield assists.
Sierra joins a lengthy list of former teammates and Fisher Cats who have debuted with the Blue Jays this season: pitchers Drew Hutchison, Evan Crawford, Sam Dyson, Aaron Loup, OF Anthony Gose, and C/INF Yan Gomes.
The Fisher Cats continue a six-game homestand with a Camp Day/Splash Day on Wednesday afternoon at 12:05 PM. For tickets and a full list of promotions for the homestand, visit www.nhfishercats.com.
