
Flores Lifts Mets to 6-5 Victory over Threshers

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. - Two Major League rehabbers played a huge role in the St. Lucie Mets 6-5 win over the Clearwater Threshers on Sunday at First Data Field.
Wilmer Flores and Brandon Nimmo combined for five hits, including one home run each. Nimmo hit a leadoff homer in the first inning while Flores broke a 4-4 tie with a two-out bomb in the bottom of the eighth.
Flores also hit a double and finished 3 for 5. Nimmo went 2 for 5. Flores played all nine innings at first base. Nimmo served as the DH.
Emmanuel Marrero led off the top of the ninth with a solo home run to cut the Mets lead to 6-5. Mark Laird followed with a single. Johnny Magliozzi settled down to get a pop out and two strikeouts to end the game.
The Mets pounded out 14 hits. Jhoan Urena went 3 for 4 with a walk. Anthony Dimino went 3 for 5 with two RBIs. John Mora added two hits and scored twice.
It was a bullpen day for the Mets on the mound. Starter Craig Missigman tossed 2.2 innings and gave up two runs on four hits. Adam Atkins and Kevin Canelon combined to hold the Threshers to two runs on 4.1 innings over the middle innings. Magliozzi tossed the final two innings to earn the win.
Clearwater got home runs from Marrero, Drew Stankiewicz and Wilson Garcia. Reliever Jeff Singer recorded two outs in the eighth before walking Mora and serving up the go-ahead homer to Flores.
The Mets (10-14) hit the road on Monday to begin a four-game series at the Bradenton Marauders (13-11). First pitch from LECOM Park is set for 6:30 p.m.
