Santos and Lawson pitch Stone Crabs to 2-1 win Saturday Apr 30th 2017, 01:34, by John Vittas

PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. - Michael Santos and Brandon Lawson did not allow an earned run over nine innings Saturday, leading the Charlotte Stone Crabs to a 2-1 win over the Bradenton Marauders Saturday night at Charlotte Sports Park.

With Bradenton (12-11) leading 1-0 in the bottom of the first, Stone Crabs (9-13) second baseman Brandon Lowe doubled to the gap in left center before Brett Sullivan drove him home with a double down the left field line.

With the game still tied in the bottom of the fourth, David Olmedo-Barrera reached on an infield single ahead of David Rodriguez, who singled through the right side to move Olmedo-Barrera to third. The next batter was Dalton Kelly, who laid down a successful squeeze bunt to score Olmedo-Barrera and give Charlotte a 2-1 lead.

Santos (2-0) went six innings in his first start of the year, allowing only five hits and one walk while striking out two. Lawson did not allow a hit over three innings to earn his first save of the season.

Jake Cronenworth picked up an infield single in the third inning to extend his hitting streak to 23 games. Cronenworth becomes the fourth farmhand in Rays' Minor League history to reach that total. The franchise record is 28 games.

The Stone Crabs will go for the series win at 12:35 p.m. on Sunday. Michael Velasquez (0-2, 5.48) makes the start for Charlotte against Mitch Keller (1-1, 4.87) of Bradenton. Coverage begins at 12:20 p.m. on the Stone Crabs Baseball Network.
