Tampa Pounds Daytona, 12-1 Apr 30th 2017, 03:04

TAMPA, FL - The Tampa Yankees offense exploded for a season-high 12 runs in their 12-1 victory over the Daytona Tortugas Saturday night at Steinbrenner Field. Tampa has won back-to-back games for the first time in two weeks, taking the series.

The Tortugas scored their lone run in the first inning on a Jorge Mateo error, scoring Nick Senzel, who doubled earlier in the frame.

Tampa broke it open in the second inning with a six run frame against LHP Ty Boyles . Matt Snyder began the scoring with an RBI double to left field and Chris Gittens ended it with a two run double. In-between, Tampa got a run when Sharif Othman stole home on a pickoff to first base.

The Yankees would then use the long-ball to expand the lead. Jhalan Jackson hit his third home run of the season, a three-run shot to left field in the fifth inning off RHP Austin Orewiler . Already leading, 9-1, Snyder would drill his third home run of the year to right in the seventh off RHP Sandy Lugo .

Boyles (1-2) suffered the loss, allowing six runs and eight hits in three innings. LHP Josh Rogers (2-2) took the win, allowing four baserunners and a run in seven innings.

The Tortugas conclude their series in Tampa Sunday. RHP Wendolyn Bautista (0-0, 3.24) gets the ball for Daytona against RHP Taylor Widener (0-2, 5.09). First pitch will be at for 1:00 PM with pregame at 12:45 PM on AM 1230 and AM 1490 WSBB.

Notes: It was the shortest start for Ty Boyles since September 3, 2015 (2/3 inning)...The Tortugas did not homer for the first time in 12 games...It was Daytona's biggest deficit of the season and Tampa's largest win
