Florence Y'alls

A warm and breezy night welcomed 1,752 fans to Champion Window Field in Florence Kentucky.

Washington got the scoring started in their half of the third, scoring one run on an error by Wally Quigg, who was new to the third base position. Florence had three errors on the inning. In the fourth, the Wild Things got another run on a solo homer by Chris Carter, his fourth of the season. The Freedom would not be shut-out for long, in the sixth, Mike Galloway doubled, bringing home Joe Holland. After six, the score was 3-1 in favor of the Wild Things. A big inning came for the Freedom in the seventh, Mike Galloway doubled in two more runs, and after seven, the score was 4-3 in favor of the Freedom. Washington got four runs in the eighth, on an Arbinger two run double, and and a couple of RBI singles. After eight, the score was 7-4. Freedom releiver Mike Causey became a huge releif for the Freedom, blanking the Wild Things in the top of the ninth. Drama was set-up in the bottom half of the ninth, with Florence trailing 7-4, Joe Holland tripled to center to lead off the inning, then Mike Galloway walked. So with one out, slugger Trevor Hall came to the dish. With one stroke of the bat, Florence tied it all up, it was Trevor's 11th jack of the season. Going into extras, the score was tied at seven. Florence entered the night 6-5 all-time in extra inning games, hoping to improve their record. No runs came until the 13th, when Washington plated one on a RBI single. Bottom 13, down 8-7, Florence came to bat for one last time. The inning began on a Scotty Martin ground-out, but Scott Pickens followed that with a solid base-hit. Josh Sanchez then reached on an error on the Wild Thing's first baseman. Making it runners on the corners, with one out. Then Joe Holland singled in Scott Pickens, tying up the game at eight. The next batter would be the last batter of the game, Wally "The Wizard" Quigg singled in The Human highlight reel (Josh Sanchez) to win the game, 9-8. I had a chance to catch up with Wally Quigg after the game.

How did it feel to hit the gamewinning single?

Mr. Quigg: It felt pretty good, it ended a hard-fought battle.

Do you see yourself playing at Third-Base for the rest of the season?

I doubt it, Zack Schmidt is a great player.

Another great performance to mention was the new guy from Tulane University, Joe Holland. Joe went 2-7, with a run batted in. Another note to pass on is Scotty Martin's third three hit game of the season. The starter for Florence, Jason Bowlin, went 7 innings, giving up 2 earned on 5 hits, striking out 4. Ted Rowe picked up the win, improving his record to 2-0. Florence now owns sole possesion of first place in the Frontier League East Division, after beating the Wild Things, and an Evansville loss. Florence looks for a sweep of the Washington Wild Things tomorrow night, first pitch is at 7:05, but the gates open at Six at Champion Window Field in Florence Kentucky, a fireworks show will follow the game. Florence's Mark Harris (4-0) is scheduled to start, Washington's starter is to be announced.
