Rockford RiverHawks News Release
ROCKFORD, Ill. - What Nate Roush lacked in strikeouts, he made up for in every other facet.
The Gateway rookie pitched a two-hitter as the Grizzlies beat the Rockford RiverHawks, 2-1, in front of 3,419 at Marinelli Field.
Roush (1-1) struck out just two, but did not allow a man in scoring position after the second inning. Roush's former Missouri Baptist University teammate, fellow rookie Justin Hardin, drove in Rockford's only run with a second-inning groundout.
Roush retired 15 in a row after Aaron McEachran led off the fourth inning with a single, extending his hitting streak to 16 games. Roush did not allow a hit the rest of the night.
Oscar Vargas singled in the go-ahead run in the top of the seventh and drove out Rockford starter Justin Olson.
Olson (2-3) gave up eight hits and struck out nine in 6 1/3 innings. He was the victim of low run support for the second straight start. On Monday, Olson lost, 3-0, at River City.
The RiverHawks head to Kalamazoo for three games, beginning at 4:35 p.m. CDT Sunday. The âHawks are back at Marinelli Field at 7:05 p.m. Wednesday to begin the final homestand at Marinelli Field. They'll move into their new stadium after the all-star break.
The RiverHawks are the defending champions of the Frontier League, a 12-team independent professional baseball league in its 13th season. All games are broadcasted live on WRHL-FM, 102.3 - the Hub.
