Richmond Roosters News Release

Evansville, Indiana - Richmond shutout Evansville 1-0 on Friday night a Bosse Field. Great pitching by both teams and an early score from the Roosters evened up the series at one game apiece.

The Roosters got one run in the first. Kevin White doubled to left-center, scoring Mike Reese from second to give Richmond a 1-0 lead. That would be the only run of the game as the Richmond earned its second shutout of the year.

The Roosters had a run erased in the sixth inning. Ty Herriott hit a fly ball to left field with one out in the inning attempting to sacrifice Kevin White from third. The ball was caught and White crossed home plate, but according to home plate umpire, White never tagged at third and was called out on an appeal. That was the final out of the inning, ending Richmond's threat. As it turned out, the Roosters wouldn't need the run anyway, winning 1-0.

Jared Howton (2-1) pitched six shutout innings for Richmond in possibly his best outing of the year. He struck out eight Otters to get the win while giving up only three hits and three walks. Beau Massey pitched the final three innings retiring all nine batters he faced to earn the save.

The Roosters (16-19) will try and win the series in the final game against Evansville (20-15) on Saturday at 7:05 p.m. (Indiana Time). Matt Schweitzer (1-2, 3.38 ERA) will toe the mound for Richmond while Cody Blackard (0-0, 0.00 ERA). The team will return home on Sunday for a three-game series against the Chillicothe Paints. Sunday is also Fireworks Night at McBride Stadium. A fireworks display will begin shortly after the end of the game.
