Balckard blackouts Richmond, Otters win 5-3

Cody Blackard pitched six innings of three hit ball and Rickey Clinton had a RBI single in the second, leading the Evansville Otters to a __-__ win over the Richmond Roosters.

The Roosters got their only run of the ballgame in the top of the second inning as Tony Sanguinetti hit his 13th homer of the season to make it 1-0 Richmond.

With two outs and the bases loaded for Evansville, Clinton delivered his RBI single, a liner through the left side for make it 2-1 Evansville. Frank Scott then followed with a single through the right side to make it 3-1.

Evansville added single runs in the sixth and seventh to make it 5-1. In the sixth, Denver Stuckey laid down a perfect sacrifice bunt to score Trask Munoz from third. In the seventh, Scott Ward drove home Steve Martin.

Overall, however, the night belonged to Blackard (1-0). The 2001 graduate of Gibson Southern High School went six strong, allowing three hits, walking four and striking out two.

Matt Schweitzer (1-3) took the loss for the Roosters going six, allowing four runs, walking a season high three.

The Otters now go out on the road for six games taking on the Washington Wild Things and Mid-Missouri Mavericks. Sunday's game will start at 5:35 p.m. CST. The Otters will send Brian Kroll (2-2) to the mound against Ryan Douglass (5-1) for Washington.
