Florence Y'alls
Florence, Kentucky: Florence looked to take two of three from Ohio Valley, but failed to do so, losing in a heartbreaker, 5-4. An astounding 3,430 fans came out to see the contest at Champion Window Field.
The Freedom started the scoring in the first on a Trevor Hall RBI single, scoring Wally Quigg. Then in the second, Freedom catcher Scott Pickens hit a two run jack, his third of the season. Leading 3-0 in the bottom of the third, Darin Kinsolving scored on an error to put Florence ahead 4-0. But Ohio Valley would chip away, scoring one in the fifth, and one in the sixth. With Florence ahead 4-2, usually dominant closer Ted Rowe came on to close this one out for Mike Dennison, but Rowe gave up three runs, two of them earned, and Ohio Valley took a 5-4 lead. In the bottom of the ninth, Joe Holland lead off with a double, and Wally Quigg bunted him over to third. Then, Brandon Cornell popped out to the second baseman, and Trevor Hall popped up to shallow centerfield, to end the game. Mike Dennison pitched brilliantly, going six innings, giving up two runs on seven hits, striking out three. Curt Moenter shutout the Redcoats in the seventh and eighth innings, but this wasn't Ted Rowe's night.
The Freedom now head on a six game road trip, with stops in Richmond, and in Chillicothe, before returning home for a six game homestand. Next homegame will be Wednesday, the 27th, first pitch at Champion Window Field being at 7:05.
