Grizzlies win 10-inning thriller

The Gateway Grizzlies didn't score a run Thursday night until the bottom of the ninth inning. They scored two in then ninth to force extra innings. In the 10th Brandon Averill looped a two-out base hit into left center to score Ryan Sullivan from second giving the Grizzlies the 3-2 win.

The Grizzlies are now 23-28. River City is 29-22.

The Grizzlies did the damage against the Rascals bullpen. River City starter Brian Keating went seven innings without allowing a run. He struck out five. Wes Hutchison gave up the two runs in the ninth before Patrick Evers (1-2) came in to end the threat. It was Evers who took the loss, giving up the run in the 10th.

Ryan Hamilton (3-1) got the win in relief for the Grizzlies. Hamilton pitched a hitless 10th inning. He walked one and struck out one. Erik Dessau started and went the first six for the Grizzlies. Dessau allowed the two runs on nine hits. He struck out three. Chris Little went three scoreless innings in relief, allowing just a single hit. He struck out three.

Averill was 1-3 with the game-winning RBI. Freddy Lopez was 3-4 with an RBI in the ninth. Ben Margalski was 2-3.

Mike Conner had both RBIs for the Rascals. He was 1-5. Kirk McConnell and Anthony Slagle each had two hits for the Rascals.

The Grizzlies and Rascals continue the series with a 7:05 game Friday night at GMC Stadium.
