Former Bobcat signs with Paints

Chillicothe Paints News Release

Brian Colopy, a standout infielder for the Ohio University Bobcats the past two years, signed a contract on Wednesday with the Chillicothe Paints and promptly recorded two hits in his professional debut.

Colopy, age 22, started at third base for the Paints Wednesday night and banged out two singles, and played flawlessly in the field with five assists.

The 5-9, 175 pound third sacker is a native of Groveport, Ohio where he lettered four years in baseball at Groveport Madison High School. He attend Columbus State University for two years and was selected First Team All-American before transferring to Ohio.

He led the Bobcats in hitting his junior season with a hefty .385 average, 17 doubles, four triples, 25 base-on-balls, and 42 RBIs. His average dipped in his senior year to .230, but Ohio coach Joe Carbone and Paints' manager Glenn Wilson both noted that Colopy was the victim of hard luck. Despite the low average, Brian still struck out only 16 times in 200 official trips to the plate, while drawing 32 free passes.

Colopy demonstrates good patience at the plate and he is a solid contact hitter from the left side," remarked Wilson. "He has nice, soft hands and is very fundamental, defensively."

Colopy was signed to fill the absence of veteran, Doug Dreher, who was released after a reoccurring injury. Dreher was rehired at a member of the Paints' coaching staff.
