Wichita Thunder News Release
Wichita, KS (February 14th) - Wichita (32-13-2) got back on track Tuesday Night, winning 6-1 against the Laredo Bucks (18-27-1) at INTRUST Bank Arena. 12 different players recorded points including a two-goal outing from RG Flath and a two-point performance from Alex Bourret. Bryan Hogan improved to 4-0-0 since coming to Wichita, making 24 saves on 25 shots. Wichita is the first team to win 20 games on home-ice and gives itself some breathing room in first place in the Berry Conference ahead of Allen.
RG Flath (12) got the scoring started in the first period as he got behind the Laredo defense and scored on a break-a-way to make it 1-0.
Wichita increased its lead in the second period as Matt Robinson (22) beat Laredo goalie Torrie Jung to make it 2-0. Robinson took an awkward fall into the boards on the previous shift, but returned to the ice and scored his fourth point against his former team this season. Ryan Sparling got Laredo back into the game on the power play, scoring at 9:56 to make it 2-1. At 15:52, Flath (13) caught a pass from Beauregard and sniped a wrist-shot past Jung to extend the lead back to two, 3-1. Including his time in Denmark and England, Flath set his own career-high with 22 goals and his third multi-goal game of the season
In the third period, Wichita kept the pressure going as Erick Lizon (2) found a loose puck on the left side of the net and with a man in his face, beat Jung to the upper corner to make it 4-1. At 11:56, Alex Bourret (17) made it 5-1 as he came down on a short-handed two-on-one and beat Jung through the legs. Chris Chappell (9) closed the scoring at 15:36 and tied his career-high. After a terrific shift, he beat the defenseman along the goal line and put home his own rebound to make it 6-1.
Wichita outscored the Bucks 11-3 in their two meetings this season and is now a 4-0-0 against Laredo in Wichita all-time. Wichita also recorded 21 shots in the second period (second highest this season) and pushed Wichita four points ahead of the Americans as Allen lost at home to Texas.
Wichita remains at home Friday night as Quad City comes to town for their final trip to the Air Capital this season. WWE Superstar Jerry 'The King' Lawler will be at the game Friday night and will be on the concourse signing autographs. The last WWE Superstar to appear at a Thunder game was Mick Foley in 2004-05.
