The Laredo Bucks and the Wichita Thunder met for the final time during the regular season Tuesday night in Wichita.
The two teams had a slow start to begin the game. The Bucks had several good looks during the period, including a powerplay opportunity, but were unable to light the lamp. RG Flath scored on a backhand shot for the Thunder, at 14:39, to give Wichita a 1-0 lead. Torrie Jung faced 9 shots during the opening period, while the Bucks only had 7 shots on net.
Former Laredo Buck, Matt Robinson, gave the Thunder a 2-0 lead at 2:23 in the second. Robinson was able to get a shot from the slot past Jung. The Bucks special teams took over at 4:49, first on the penalty kill, then the powerplay unit took over at 8:24. Laredo was able to take advantage of the opportunity, when Matt Boyd found Ryan Sparling wide open on the backside of the Thunder netminder at 9:56. Neil Trimm also had an assist on the play that made it a one goal game at 2-1. After the Bucks got on the board, Laredo started attacking Wichita with great intensity. However, RG Flath was able to get his second goal of the game at 15:52, giving the Thunder a 3-1 lead. The Bucks were outshot 21-8 in the second.
Another former Laredo Buck, Erick Lizon, hit a shot off the crossbar at 5:31 to give Wichita a 4-1 lead. The Bucks had a 4 minute powerplay at 8:14, but could not convert. The Thunder however were able to score a short-handed goal with 18 seconds left on the Bucks powerplay, making the lead 5-1.
