Flames Recall Spang

Las Vegas, NV - The Las Vegas Wranglers® announced today that defenseman Dan Spang has been recalled by the Quad City Flames of the American Hockey League. The Flames then loaned Spang to the Syracuse Crunch (AHL) for the remainder of the 2008-09 season.

In 17 games with the Wranglers this season, Spang scored twice and set up ten goals for 12 points. The defenseman also registered a +5 and was instrumental in the team's eight-game winning streak from January 31st to February 11th.

Spang is in his third full season of professional hockey and has played the bulk of his career games in the AHL. The 6-foot, 205-pound defender was drafted by the NHL's San Jose Sharks in the second round (#52 overall) of the 2002 NHL Entry Draft. The 25-year old played in 30 games for the AHL's Flames this season, scoring one goal and adding seven assists for eight points. For his career, Spang has 15 goals and 61 assists for a total of 76 points in 180 games.

Prior to turning pro, Spang played four seasons at Boston University. In146 games with the Terriers, the Winchester, MA native totaled 20 goals and 50 assists for 70 points.

The Wranglers continue on a ten-game road trip with their next stop in Phoenix this Monday at 6:05 PM (PST). Las Vegas will make stops in Stockton, Ontario, Bakersfield and Alaska before hosting the Idaho Steelheads on March 13th and 14th at 7:30 PM at the Orleans Arena.
