The Norwich Navigators scored five times with two out in the sixth, taking the lead for good and beating the Binghamton Mets 8-5 at NYSEG Stadium Tuesday. Binghamton's lost two straight to the Navigators.

After Norwich (56-60) pushed across a run on a Tyler Von Schell two-out RBI single in the top of the first, the B-Mets rallied for two runs in the bottom of the inning off Norwich starter Brian Mazone. Lastings Milledge and Wayne Lydon led off with singles for Binghamton (49-65) and both were bunted into scoring position by Aarom Baldiris before Mike Jacobs drove them in with a base hit to left for a 2-1 B-Mets lead.

Norwich tied the score on a Fred Lewis homer in the top of the third, but Binghamton re-took the lead in the bottom half of the inning. After Baldiris reached on a one-out infield hit off Mazone (7-8) and Jacobs singled him to third, Jay Caligiuri doubled home Baldiris for a 3-2 lead.

Once again, Norwich rallied to tie the score in the fourth, helped by two errors and a Mazone sacrifice fly. However, Binghamton went up 4-3 in the fifth. After Baldiris hit a one-out single and Jacobs followed with a walk, Caligiuri hit a fly ball to deep centerfield that was tracked down by Carlos Valderrama. Baldiris moved to third on the play and Jacobs scampered to second when he saw the base was unoccupied. Baldiris scored on the throw to second.

After reliever Rafael Lopez got two outs to start the sixth, Mazone, the opposing pitcher, homered to left, tying the game at four. Lopez (2-7) then walked Lewis and Kevin Frandsen, both of whom were driven in on a Dan Ortmeier double to left-center. Valderrama put Norwich up 8-5 when he followed with a two-run homer.

Binghamton scored the game's final run in the seventh, when pinch-hitter Jeff Duncan doubled to right, scoring Jacobs from first, who'd walked.

Alfredo Simon pitched the two shutout innings for Norwich, earning his 13th save.

Wednesday, the B-Mets wrap up their three-game series vs. Norwich. Luz Portobanco (2-9, 6.19) will start for Binghamton against southpaw Pat Misch (2-0, 1.91) of Norwich. The first pitch in slated for 7:00 from NYSEG Stadium, with the Horizons Federal Credit Union Pre-Game Show kicking off the radio broadcast at 6:45 on Newsradio 1290 WNBF.
