New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release
New Hampshire improves to 58-58 with third straight one-run victory over Harrisburg
Manchester, NH- Vince Perkins matched a season high by pitching 7.1 innings, and Ryan Roberts blooped a tiebreaking, sixth inning home run over the short porch in right field to carry the New Hampshire Fisher Cats past the Harrisburg Senators, 2-1, Tuesday night at Fisher Cats Ballpark. With their third consecutive one-run victory over Harrisburg, New Hampshire moves back into a tie for second place with Trenton in the Eastern League's Northern Division playoff race.
Perkins (5-6) held Harrisburg (56-61) to a run on eight hits (6 K, 1 BB) before leaving with one out and runners on first and second base in the top of the eigth inning. Jesse Carlson struck out Larry Broadway, and Ryan Houston struck out Dee Haynes to thwart the threat.
Houston (1.1 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 3 K) pitched a perfect ninth for his second save, and first since June 3 vs Norwich. Carlson's one out in the eighth inning extended his season-long scoreless-innings stretch to 30 innings, 4.1 shy of Gustavo Chacin's franchise record.
New Hampshire (58-58) took a 1-0 lead in the second inning when Clint Johnston roped a 3-2 offering from Harrisburg starter and losing pitcher Armando Galarraga (1-2) into the right-centerfield gap, scoring Anthony Sanders (2-for-3, R) from first base.
Cristian Guerrero's fielder's choice grounder scored Haynes from third base in the top of the fifth to tie the score, 1-1.
Roberts tied Rob Cosby for the Fisher Cats' home run lead by hitting his 14th against Galarraga with one out in the sixth inning. That allowed the Fisher Cats to earn their sixth win in seven games and move back to the .500 mark for the first time since July 28.
The Fisher Cats search for the four-game sweep Wednesday morning at 11:05am when right-hander Josh Banks (7-10, 4.00) pitches against Harrisburg left-hander David Maust (3-3, 2.77). The first 1,500 kids in attendance will receive a Fisher Cats Magnetic Memo Board on Parks and Recreation Day. For ticket information, visit www.nhfishercats.com or call (603) 641-2005.
Coverage begins at 10:55am on WKBR 1250-AM in Manchester, and the game will be heard on a tape delay basis beginning at 5:55pm on WKXL 1450 AM in Concord with Bob Lipman calling the play-by-play on the Fisher Cats Radio Network.
