Back-to-back Altoona bombs sink Baysox for third straight loss, 10-3

Altoona, Pa. - The Baysox took a 2-0 lead into the bottom of the first inning against Altoona, but that was about all that went right for the Baysox as they dropped their third straight game, 10-3. OF Peter Bergeron got off to a quick start with a leadoff double to left center, then SS Brandon Fahey laid down a bunt single that advanced Bergeron to third. Bergeron then scored on a Tripper Johnson single giving the Baysox a 1-0 lead. OF Nick Markakis in the very next at bat hit into a 6-4-3 double play, scoring Fahey giving the Baysox a 2-0 lead.

But Altoona got to newly acquired Baysox P Matt Bailie early in the second. Adam Boeve singled to left, then Jose Bautista blasted a two-run homerun in the very next at bat, tying the game at 2-2. Jorge Cortes went back-to-back with a solo shot, giving the Curve a 3-2 lead.

The third inning for the Curve produced more runs. Bautista had an RBI single giving the Curve a 4-2 lead. Cortez also drove in a run hitting into a fielder's choice, giving the Curve a 5-2 lead to close out the third.

The Curve added one run in the fourth and one in the sixth, mounting a 7-2 lead. The Baysox closed within four runs when 1B Mike Huggins scored on a wild pitch in the eighth. But Altoona came back with three runs of their own in the bottom of the eighth putting the game out of reach for the Baysox, 10-3.

BAYSOX NOTES: Bailie signed with the Orioles organization hours prior to the game. LHP Eric DuBose, who had been scheduled to make tonight's start, was recalled to Baltimore as the Orioles placed RHP Sidney Ponson on the disabled list...Bergeron and Fahey both extended their hitting streaks to eight games.
