Montgomery Biscuits News Release

JACKSON, Tenn. - The Biscuits (21-19) could not recover from a five-run second inning as they fell 8-2 to the Jackson Generals (17-23) in the series-opener on a cold Thursday night at Generals Park.

The Generals started the second inning with three-straight singles to load the bases. Jared Mortensen (4-1) then got two quick outs to bring up the nine-hitter Jack Marder. After falling behind 3-0, Mortensen worked the count back to 3-2 before walking in a run. Ketel Marte followed with a two-run double. Nate Melendres drove in two runs with a single to make it 5-0 Generals.

As the temperature dropped in the 40s, the score turned colder as well. Jackson added three runs in the fourth inning to lead 8-0.

The Biscuits scored both of their runs in the fifth inning. Riccio Torrez put the Biscuits on the board with an RBI-double. Torrez then scored on a single from Joey Rickard to cut the deficit to six.

Kevin Brandt and Bryce Stowell combined to throw four scoreless-innings out of the bullpen. Biscuits' relievers have now thrown eleven-consecutive innings without allowing a run.

Taylor Motter finished with his team-leading 14th multi-hit game of the year while Torrez and Rickard also had two hits each.

The loss is the first time in eight starts the Biscuits have not won with Mortensen on the mound.

Game two of the series is Friday night at 7:05. RH Victor Mateo will throw against RH Matt Anderson.
