Pensacola Blue Wahoos News Release
PENSACOLA, Fla. - Blue Wahoos reliever RHP Elvin Ramirez has been called up to Triple-A Louisville. The former major leaguer pitched in four games for the Wahoos and had a 6.75 ERA. Ramirez was assigned to Pensacola's roster on April 30 and pitched 5.1 innings for the Wahoos. Ramirez pitched well in his last appearance; he gave up one hit in 2.0 innings and struck out one Birmingham batter.
Ramirez spent time with the New York Mets back in 2012. He made 20 Major League appearances that year and totaled 22 strikeouts for the Mets. He was traded to the Angels prior to the 2013 season and he split the year between Triple-A Salt Lake and Double-A Arkansas. The right-hander was 1-1 between the two stops over 49 appearances. He fanned 49 batters over 61 innings and displayed his versatility with a start and a save during the season. Ramirez signed a minor league contract with the Reds in early April. No corresponding moves have been made at this time by the Blue Wahoos.
