Five-Run Frame Sends Tourists to Third Straight Win
May 10, 2022 - South Atlantic League (SAL)
Asheville Tourists News Release
ASHEVILLE- Five was a key number on Tuesday night for the Asheville Tourists. Spencer Arrighetti pitched five hitless innings and the Tourists scored five runs in the seventh inning to beat the Greenville Drive 6-3.
Arrighetti was literally unhittable while on the mound. The Tourists starting pitcher surrendered zero base hits in five innings of work while striking out a season-high nine batters. Greenville's Wyatt Olds kept up with Asheville's right-hander by escaping a few early jams to keep the game scoreless.
In the bottom of the sixth with the score still 0-0, JC Correa appeared to give Asheville the lead on what looked to be a solo Home Run. The play was ruled a double and the Tourists were held scoreless in the frame.
Greenville took a 1-0 lead in the seventh on a solo Home Run. The lead was short lived. Asheville put the first two runners aboard in the bottom of the seventh and Cristian Gonzalez tied the score with an RBI double. Will Wagner then put the Tourists in front with an RBI single and Jordan Brewer provided the insurance with a two-run double of his own. Brewer promptly stole third and scored on a throwing error.
The five-run inning was Asheville's highest scoring inning of the season. Greenville used a two-run Home Run in the eighth to cut into the deficit; however, the Tourists responded with another Gonzalez RBI base hit in the bottom half. The Drive managed to load the bases in the ninth but Hunter Peck shut the door with his first save of the season.
Asheville has won three games in a row and will attempt to make it four with Game Two of the current series set for Wednesday night at 6:35pm ET.
