Louisville Bats News Release
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.-The Louisville Bats (12-18) defeated the Indianapolis Indians (15-13) by a 6-3 score on Saturday night at Victory Field. Louisville trailed 3-1 before scoring five runs in the top of the eighth to earn its fifth comeback win of the season.
Louisville starting pitcher Jose Lopez (2-2, 5.28) went 5.0 innings, allowing two earned runs on six hits and one home run, walking and striking out five on 88 pitches, 52 strikes. The lone pair of runs Lopez surrendered came on a Will Craig two-run homer in the bottom of the first, with the right-hander mostly settling in after the first frame. Lopez loaded the bases in both the second and third innings, but came out of it unscathed with Indianapolis failing to capitalize.
The Bats were kept off the scoreboard until the seventh inning, when Christian Colon knocked in Brian O'Grady with an RBI single. The Indians would answer with a run of their own in the inning, taking a 3-1 lead before the Bats' offense erupted in the next inning. Indianapolis starter, right-hander Dario Agrazal (1-0, 1.32) left the game with the 3-1 lead, allowing one unearned run in 7.0 innings of work in just his second Triple-A start.
The five-run inning, which tied a season-high for Louisville, was started with back-to-back singles by Blake Trahan and pinch-hitter Nick Longhi. Josh VanMeter walked to load the bases, and Phillip Ervin came through with an RBI single to make it a one-run game. Rob Refsnyder would play the hero role in the inning, with his double to deep center field clearing the bases, giving the Bats a 5-3 lead. Refsnyder came around to score on an RBI single by Luis Gonzalez, whose first career Triple-A hit gave the Bats a 6-3 lead.
Right-hander Jackson Stephens improved to 3-0 out of the Louisville bullpen, giving up an earned run in 2.0 innings of work. Left-hander Ian Krol tossed a scoreless shutdown eighth for the Bats, while right-hander Anthony Bass nailed down his sixth save of the season for Louisville, handing the Bats their first comeback win since April 16 in a home game against Columbus.
The Bats will finish off their seven-game road trip tomorrow, hoping to salvage a winning road trip and an even series against Indianapolis. First pitch is scheduled for 1:35 p.m. at Victory Field with right-hander Odrisamer Despaigne (1-2, 5.22) set to make his seventh start for Louisville, and right-hander Eduardo Vera (0-2, 4.85) set to start for Indianapolis.
