Syracuse, NY - The Syracuse Mets used a two-run home run in the bottom of the ninth inning to force extra innings, but the Mets ultimately fell to the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders, 4-2, on Saturday night in front of an electric crowd of 4,833 at NBT Bank Stadium.

Syracuse (17-12) trailed, 2-0, entering the bottom of the ninth inning. With one out, Luis Guillorme walked. Carlos Gómez followed with a monstrous home run over the left-center-field wall that tied the game, 2-2.

Scranton/Wilkes-Barre (14-12) scored the decisive runs in the top of the tenth inning. Kyle Higashioka started the frame on second base. Mandy Alvarez led off the inning with a double to the right-field corner, scoring Higashioka to give the RailRiders a 3-2 edge. Three batters later, with two outs, Matt Lipka doubled down the left-field line, bringing home Alvarez for a 4-2 Scranton/Wilkes-Barre lead, which Syracuse didn't come back from in the bottom of the tenth.

The RailRiders started the game's scoring with two runs in the second inning. Ryan McBroom singled and moved to second on an error. McBroom moved to third base on a Higashioka single, and then scored on a passed ball for a 1-0 Scranton/Wilkes-Barre advantage. Higashioka advanced to second on the passed ball, moved to third on a groundout, and scored on a sacrifice fly by Cliff Pennington to push the lead to 2-0.

Scranton/Wilkes-Barre starting pitcher Nestor Cortes didn't allow a hit until René Rivera had a one-out single in the bottom of the eighth inning. Syracuse starter Zach Lee was impressive too, allowing just one earned run over seven innings.

The Mets and RailRiders conclude their three-game series on Sunday afternoon. RHP Mickey Jannis is scheduled to start for Syracuse. First pitch is set for 1:05 p.m.
