
Five Homers Send Power to 8-3 Win over Legends

(WHITAKER BANK BALLPARK, Lexington, Ky.) The West Virginia Power hit five home runs, two by Gregory Polanco, on their way to an 8-3 win over the Lexington Legends Thursday night.
The Legends remain three and one-half games behind the first-place Rome Braves in the South Atlantic League Southern Division. The Braves lost to Greensboro 9-8.
West Virginia took the lead in the third inning on a leadoff double by Francisco Aponte and a one-out homer by Taylor Lewis. They added another run in the fourth when Dan Gamache led off the inning with a home run.
The Power scored two more runs in the fifth. With two out, Polanco homered to left field. Willy Garcia followed with a single, and scored when Gamache doubled to center field, giving the Power a 5-0 lead.
The Legends scored all their runs in the sixth. Delino DeShields Jr. led off with a home run over the left field bleachers. Nolan Fontana walked, and was forced out at second on a ground ball by Zack Johnson, but Brandon Meredith followed with a line drive home run to left field, cutting the Power lead to 5-3.
West Virginia answered with three runs in the seventh. Lewis led off the inning with a single, and scored when Polanco hit his second home run of the game over the right field fence. Two outs later, Jose Osuna hit a solo home run to left field, giving the Power their final margin of 8-3.
Polanco left the game after being injured while running out a groundball in the eighth inning.
Power starter Nick Kingham (5-7) got the win after giving up two runs over five and two-thirds innings of work.
Lexington starter Luis Ordosgoitti (5-4) was handed the loss after allowing five runs over four and two-thirds innings.
The Legends and Power will play game three of the four game series on Friday night. First pitch at Whitaker Bank Ballpark is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
