New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release


(Manchester, NH)-Mike McDade hit a two-run home run, and Joel Carreno, Evan Crawford and Alan Farina limited the Sea Dogs to one hit as the Fisher Cats beat Portland 3-0 on Wednesday at Northeast Delta Stadium.

Carreno (1-3) earned his first Double-A win, working seven innings. He allowed only a third-inning bloop single to left by Chih-Hsien Chiang. Carreno walked two and struck out seven. The 24-year old right-hander from the Dominican Republic is on the Blue Jays 40-man roster.

Evan Crawford worked a perfect eighth inning with two strikeouts. Alan Farina, who's also on the 40-man roster, pitched around a walk in the ninth inning for his fifth save.

The Fisher Cats (19-12) would pick up all the offense they would need in the bottom of the fourth inning. Adeiny Hechavarria walked and Mike McDade hit his third home run of the season to make it 2-0.

New Hampshire tacked on a run in the bottom of the seventh inning. Moises Sierra singled but was erased on a fielders' choice by John Tolisano. Tolisano moved up on a groundout by Mark Sobolewski and scored from second on a single by Yan Gomes for a 3-0 lead.

Portland (11-19) starter Michael Lee (1-3) took the loss, but pitched well. He allowed two hits and two runs, walked two and struck out two.

The Fisher Cats head to Reading where they will open a five-game series on Thursday night at 6:35pm. RHP Zach Stewart (2-2, 3.53) goes for New Hampshire in the opener against Phillies LHP Ryan Edell (3-1, 4.33). Radio coverage begins at 6:15pm with Bob Lipman on the WGIR Fisher Cats Radio Network.
