New Britain Rock Cats News Release
New Britain, CT - The New Britain Rock Cats have been playing solid baseball on the road this year - they are currently 11-7 away from Connecticut - but are looking forward to returning home on Thursday night to open a five-game series with Portland, the Eastern League affiliate of the Boston Red Sox. The aspiring Bosox - a/k/a the Sea Dogs - will arrive at New Britain Stadium tomorrow night (5/12) to begin an extended weekend series in the Hardware City. The intensive five-games-in-four-days stretch will feature - in addition to some terrific baseball - a Friday Night Post-Game Fireworks Show, a Saturday Evening Twilight Doubleheader, and a series-concluding Sunday Afternoon contest that will be the centerpiece of another Family Fun Day at the ball park!
Here are some additional details of the Rock Cats' 3rd Homestand of the 2011 Season:
THURSDAY NIGHT, MAY 12th, 6:35 PM:
The Sea Dogs from Maine will help the Rock Cats open this five-game set at 6:35 PM on Thursday night. Portland's Manager, 36-year-old Kevin Boles, brings a talented squad to the Hardware City as several of his players are ranked by Baseball America as among the Best Prospects in the entire Boston organization. Before the game even begins, the Rock Cats will be rewarding the first 1,500 fans through the gates with a terrific, full-color
2011 Team Poster, made possible by the good folks at Demers Events and Party Rentals. Moreover, the gates will open at 5:05 PM to allow fans to participate in a Pre-Game Social Hour in the open-air Samuel Adams Bar & Grill. Sponsored by Twisted Tea, this rooftop setting at the Stadium is a great spot to enjoy the game - and the pre-game! Food and Drink Specials will be available throughout.
FRIDAY NIGHT, MAY 13th, 6:35 PM:
The Sea Dogs are back for this Friday night contest that is scheduled for a 6:35 PM first pitch. Once all the action on the diamond concludes, please stick around for a Friday Night Spectacular Fireworks Show that is sponsored by our good friends at Stanley Black & Decker. Friday is also Fritos Family Night at the Stadium in which a randomly selected fan will have the opportunity to participate in a special ballpark experience - he or she will be invited to assist the 'Cats game staff with an on-field contest, serve as the Public Address announcer for an inning, or partake in some other unique Stadium experience. This will be great fun for some lucky fan!
SATURDAY EVENING, MAY 14th, TWILIGHT DOUBLEHEADER@5:35 PM
The gang from Maine is back on Saturday afternoon at 5:35 PM and the two clubs will play two! This game was originally scheduled as a singleton - but an April Rain Out caused the Rock Cats to reconfigure the date as a Twilight Doubleheader - two 7-inning games - with the first getting off at 5:35 PM. It's a single-admission affair so fans can double their pleasure for the price of just one game. And speaking of pleasure, the Famous Dancing Christopher will be with us on Saturday and will be performing during both games that night. This crowd-pleasing act has to be seen to be believed - it's great fun for all ages! There will be pre- and post-game fun in New Britain on Saturday as well: The former involves a Pre-Game Block Party that will kick off about 4:00 PM where there will be games, inflatables, and other fun activities for kids before they enter the ballpark. Sponsored by our pals at Guida's Milk and D'Angelo, there will also be free food sampling! After the game, please stay with us for the FORD Post-Game Launch-A-Ball contest where fans get a chance to win great prizes by tossing tennis balls at fixed targets out on the field. In addition to the evening's on-site winners - all proceeds go to the Rock Cats Foundation, the club's charitable arm - so everybody wins!
SUNDAY AFTERNOON, MAY 15th, 1:35 PM:
The Rock Cats and Sea Dogs will engage in baseball battle for the final time in this series at 1:35 PM on Sunday afternoon. But they won't be only ones competing on the field - as part of the Barnum Financial Group's Family Fun Day we'll be joined on Sunday afternoon by several Mascots for a pre-game Kickball Game. The 'Cats popular mascot - Rocky- will be doing all he can to protect his home field advantage. His furry pals - Blooper and Rookie - will be at his side! Other well-known Mascots - past participants have included UConn's Jonathan, the UHart's Howie the Hawk, the Central Connecticut's Blue Devil, among others, have made this pre-game contest a lot of fun to watch. Join us early for this one! And, of course, as its Sunday at New Britain Stadium, all kids are invited down to the field for an unforgettable Post-Game Run-of-the-Bases experience. We've got you coming and going!
