Akron RubberDucks News Release

The New Hampshire Fisher Cats scored a pair of runs on a throwing error by Akron's Argenis Angulo in the bottom of the ninth inning Wednesday afternoon to secure a walk-off victory over the RubberDucks, 7-6, at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium in Manchester, N. Hamp.

Turning Point

Trailing, 6-5, entering the bottom of the ninth, the Fisher Cats (35-23) rallied immediately against Angulo (1-2) who hit lead-off batter Jonathan Davis and walked Bo Bichette on four pitches. Gunnar Heidt's first two attempts to sacrifice went foul, but he finally executed a bunt on the 0-2 pitch. Angulo charged off the mound to field the bunt and attempted to force out the lead runner, Davis, at third. The throw, however, was hopelessly wild and skipped past third base, banked off the side wall and skittered down the left-field line. By the time Andrew Calica retrieved the ball, Davis had scored to tie it, and Bichette had motored all the way from first to score the winning run.

Mound Presence

Angulo suffered his second blown save. The late meltdown cost Shao-Ching Chiang a win. The Akron starter worked five innings and allowed two runs on six hits. Chiang left with a 5-2 lead.

Duck Tales

The RubberDucks (33-26) built a 5-0 lead against Cats starter Jon Harris. Mark Mathias socked a solo homer, and Sam Haggerty and Daniel Salters had RBI hits, in the fourth inning to claim a 3-0 lead. Akron extended the advantage to 5-0 in the fifth on a two-run double by Bobby Bradley. The Fisher Cats rallied to tie it at 5-5, on a two-run homer by Pat Cantwell in the fifth off Chiang and a three-run rally against Henry Martinez in the eighth. Andrew Calica broke the 5-5 tie with a solo homer in the top of the ninth off Andrew Case (1-1). It was Calica's second of the year.
