Fish Squander Three Leads in Lincoln

The Winnipeg Goldeyes were in the driver's seat on multiple occasions Monday night, but the wheels fell off too many times.
The Goldeyes (11-5) hit three home runs, but it wasn't enough in an 11-10 loss in 10 innings to the Lincoln Saltdogs (9-9) at Haymarket Park in Nebraska.
Winnipeg blew two three-run leads and a two run in the lead in the contest and entered the ninth and 10th innings with the lead.
Chris Roberson, in Winnipeg's second at bat of the game, hit a two-run homer that also scored Price Kendall, who opened the game with a walk.
The Goldeyes added another run in the first inning via a single from Ridge Carpenter.
Lincoln would respond, though, to take a 5-3 lead by scoring two runs of their own in the bottom of the first, one run in the third and two more in the fifth.
It would stay that way until the seventh inning when Roberson hit his second home run of the game to put Winnipeg back on top. Roberson's two-run blast was set up by two-out walks to David Narodowski and Kendall.
After Winnipeg added another run in the seventh to take a 7-5 lead, the Goldeyes couldn't close out the game in the bottom of the ninth inning. The Saltdogs scored two runs, which were both charged to Craig James. He was tasked with saving the game, but faced just three batters before being relieved by Zach Baldwin without getting an out.
In the 10th inning, Luis Alen started things off with a single and then two batters later Ridge Carpenter was hit by a pitch. That set the stage for Amos Ramon to hit his first home run of the season, a three-run shot that once again gave Winnipeg a three-run lead at 10-7.
But once again Lincoln came back. The Saltdogs cut Winnipeg's lead to 10-9 and then Barrett Phillips, who came into relieve Chris Kaminski, walked in the tying run with the bases loaded and then tossed a wild pitch to score the winning run.
Goldeyes starter Chris Salamida pitched eight innings, which is the deepest start for Winnipeg this season. He allowed five runs on seven hits and had five strikeouts.
Kaminski suffers the loss, while Brad Payne picks the win for Lincoln.
The Goldeyes fall to 6-4 on the road and lose for the first time in four extra inning game this season.
The second game of the four-game series goes tomorrow night in Lincoln. Matt Rusch (1-0, 3.31) will toe the slab for Winnipeg, while Lincoln counters with Pete Parise (3-0, 1.80).
The pre-game show on TSN 1290 with Paul Edmonds begins at 6:30 p.m. Game time is 7:00 p.m.
