Pheasants Down RailCats 6-2 in Series Opener

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - The RailCats surrendered four runs in the fifth inning as they dropped the series opener 6-2 to the Pheasants on Monday night.

RailCats starter Stephen Hiscock, making his first career start, was perfect through the first three innings. Johnny Kaplan led off the fourth with a grounder to third, but reached on Rico Washington's throwing error. He would come around to score on Jared Bolden's RBI single to give the Pheasants a 1-0 lead.

In the fifth, Sioux Falls loaded the bases on two walks and a hit. Cory Morales hit a two-out, bases-clearing double to extend the lead to 4-0. Justin Roelle came on in relief and gave up another RBI single to Bolden to make it 5-0.

RailCats right fielder Mike Coles hit RBI doubles in the sixth and eighth for the RailCats only tallies.

In the bottom of the eighth, former RailCat Cristian Guerrero hit a towering solo home run to left for the final run of the game. He now has three homers and six RBI in four games against his former team.

The series continues on Tuesday night, with first pitch at 7:05 p.m. RailCats right-hander Kyle Wilson (0-2, 6.50) will oppose Sioux Falls right-hander Matt Sommo (1-1, 6.60).
