Grand Prairie AirHogs News Release
GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas -- Trent Lockwood hit a solo home run and the Grand Prairie AirHogs scored two unearned runs in the third, then used a solid seven innings from starter John Brownell to beat the Laredo Lemurs 3-1 at QuikTrip Park on Monday to snap a three-game losing streak.
Lemurs starter Matt Way (1-2) retired the first four AirHogs, but Lockwood launched an opposite-field drive off the lefty to put Grand Prairie (9-8) in front with one out in the second. An inning later, left-fielder John Allen dropped Greg Porter's slicing fly ball, allowing Keanon Simon to score and make it 2-0, and Porter later scored on a Way wild pitch to put the AirHogs up three.
That was more than enough for Brownell (2-1), who faced the minimum nine hitters through three innings, and gave up one run on six hits and a walk in seven innings. He fanned five, including back-to-back hitters to end the sixth after Laredo (8-9) had a runner on third and one out.
Ronnie Morales pitched a perfect eighth to give closer Justin Dowdy his second save appearance, which he converted when he got Anthony Scelfo to ground out with two on in the ninth.
Notes: Chris McMurray went 2-for-4 in his return to the AirHogs' lineup after a week off with a broken nose...The AirHogs only made four fly ball outs, and three of them were against Lemurs relievers...Yunesky Sanchez, who drove in Laredo's only run, has his only home run and all five of his RBIs this year against the AirHogs.
