Winnipeg Goldeyes News Release

Despite pounding out 10 hits, the Winnipeg Goldeyes never quite got on track Tuesday night and fell 5-2 to the Gary SouthShore RailCats.

The loss, before 6,231 fans on a night the Goldeyes retired Ace Walker's No. 31 before, leaves Winnipeg winless in four series at home this season and six games below .500 at 12-18 on the season.

The RailCats scored quickly with two runs in the first and another in the fourth to take a 3-0 lead.

After Gary scored another run in the top of the seventh, the Goldeyes broke the shutout with two runs in the bottom of the eighth. Casey Haerther doubled to score Adam Heisler and then scored on a Josh Mazzola single.

That's as close as the home side would make it, though, as the RailCats added a run via a Ryan Brockett home run in the top of the ninth.

Haerther and Brady Wilson had a pair of hits for the Goldeyes. Wilson extended his hitting streak to nine games.

Goldeyes starter Dustin Loggins gave up three runs on nine hits in 4 1/3 innings of work, but took the loss. Charle Rosario picked up the win for Gary, while Andy Loomis earned the save for the second straight night.

The Goldeyes will be out to avoid being swept at home tomorrow night for the first time this season. Coby Cowgill (1-1, 4.77) will be on the hill for the Goldeyes against Gary's Andy Roberts (0-2, 4.06). Game time is 7:00 p.m.
