St. Paul Saints News Release
ST. PAUL, MN (June 24, 2015) - The St. Paul Saints are an incredible 26-5, but that record is even more impressive when you consider all the injuries the Saints have gone through the last couple of weeks. The Saints signed former Hill-Murray product, outfielder Robert Youngdahl to help with the depleted depth of the team.
The 22-year-old Youngdahl just completed his senior season at the University of Notre Dame where he hit .290 with seven home runs and 46 RBI in 60 games. In 241 at bats he ripped 20 doubles, one triple, stole seven bases in eight attempts, had a .346 on base percentage and a .469 slugging percentage. He led the Irish in doubles and was second on the team in home runs. He earned Third-Team All-ACC Honors.
Youngdahl was a standout at Hill-Murray and was drafted in the 37th round of the 2011 draft by the Boston Red Sox, but elected not to sign instead going to Kansas State. After one season with the Wildcats he transferred to Iowa Western JC before spending his final two seasons with the Irish.
While at Hill-Murray he was named the Classic Suburban Conference Player of the Year and Gatorade Player of the Year in Minnesota. During his senior season he hit .450 with five homers and 24 RBI and on the mound was 7-0 with a 0.49 ERA in 42.1 innings pitched.
In order to make room on the roster for Youngdahl the Saints released catcher Mike Schultz.
The Saints roster stands at the league maximum 22, 11 pitchers and 11 position players.
