Fresno Falcons News Release
LAS VEGAS - The Las Vegas Wranglers scored three goals in a 1:15 span of the first period and never looked back as they defeated the Fresno Falcons last night, 7-2, at The Orleans Arena in Las Vegas.
Just after a Wranglers power play expired, Chris Neiszner rifled a slapshot past Falcons starting goaltender Jamie Holden at 7:45 of the first period, igniting the three-goal outburst. Nick Anderson followed with a goal just 18 seconds later, and 57 seconds after that, Marco Peluso converted on a gift in front of a wide-open net, chasing Holden and giving Las Vegas a 3-0 lead at the nine minute mark.
Fresno made an effort to get back in the game 3:04 into the second period when Dustin VanBallegooie sent a slapper past All-Star netminder Mike McKenna one second after a Falcons power play expired. But the Wranglers' Matt Dzieduszycki capitalized on a five-on-three power play mid-way through the frame to restore his club's three-goal advantage.
In the third, more special teams work from Las Vegas buried the Falcons. Dzieduszycki struck again on the power play at 7:00 to extend the lead to 5-1. Neiszner then potted his second of the game on the power play at 9:44, which was followed by a shorthanded goal from Todd Alexander at 11:15, putting the Wranglers out in front, 7-1. The only positive in the period for Fresno was a power play goal from John Wroblewski at 14:29 that extended his goal streak to a team season-high four straight games.
The loss ended a three-game wining streak for the Falcons and dropped them to 19-6-8 on the year. Both the second-place San Diego Gulls and third-place Long Beach Ice Dogs gained ground in the Pacific Division with victories last night, but the first-place Falcons still lead those two clubs by eight and 10 points, respectively.
Fresno returns to action at home tonight, when they host the Bakersfield Condors at 7:30 p.m. at Save Mart Center. The first 2,500 fans will receive a 2005-06 Falcons Team Photo courtesy of Heald College, CBS 47, and K-Jewel.
Single-game tickets for the game are on sale now at all Ticketmaster outlets and Save Mart Center's box office. Prices range from $8 - $23.
