Phoenix RoadRunners News Release
Las Vegas, Nev. - Sean O'Connor tallied a goal and added an assist and Marc Magliarditi stopped all 20 shots he faced to lead the Las Vegas Wranglers to a 2-0 shutout victory over the Phoenix RoadRunners before 6,432 at the Orleans Arena in ECHL action Saturday.
After a scoreless 38 minutes of hockey thanks to some solid goaltending from the RoadRunners Mike Mole, the Wranglers (29-6-3) would finally break through at the 18:42 mark of the second period. Sean O'Connor re-directed Mike McBain's slap shot from the point past Mole to give Las Vegas a 1-0 lead heading into the second intermission.
Las Vegas sealed the win after Brent Henley took a penalty with 46 seconds remaining. With the Wranglers on the power play and Phoenix (10-23-3) needing to get the puck down ice, Marco Peluso intercepted Mole's clearing attempt in the slot and put a wrist shot past the RoadRunners goaltender at 19:58 to cap the scoring.
Las Vegas out-shot Phoenix 44-20. Mole stopped 42 shots but dropped to 6-17-3 on the season. The RoadRunners went 0-5 on the power play.
Notes: Phoenix was shutout by Las Vegas for the second time this season and blanked for the seventh time overall...Mole has allowed just three goals in his last two starts, both losses...The RoadRunners will begin a nine-game stretch away from US Airways Center next Friday at Utah. Following Thursday's home game against Las Vegas, Phoenix will not return to US Airways Center until February 14 when they host the Long Beach Ice Dogs.
Phoenix returns to US Airways Center at 7:11PM on Thursday, January 19 as they welcome the Las Vegas Wranglers. It's another "Past Greats Night" as the RoadRunners will honor former World Hockey Association star and current Albany River Rats Head Coach Robbie Ftorek. The first 2,000 fans will receive a coupon good for a commemorative Robbie Ftorek pint glass upon exiting the arena.
