SAN DIEGO - The San Diego Gulls got back on the winning track with a big win against Bakersfield last night. Tonight will be another tough assignment, as the high-flying Alaska Aces make their third-and-final visit to the ipayOne Center.
SERIES HISTORY: The Gulls and Aces have met five times so far this season with Alaska holding a 4-1-0 series edge. This is the last head-to-head match up of the regular season.

LAST HEAD-TO-HEAD MEETING (JAN. 8 VS. ALASKA ): Alaska scored four goals in just over four minutes during the second period Sunday, as they cruised to a 6-3 victory over the injury-plagued Gulls at the ipayOne Center. San Diego trailed just 2-1 at the end of one, but by the second intermission, the score read 6-1 with Alaska notching its six goals on only 15 shots. The flurry of Aces goals came over a span of 4:07, turning a tight contest into a blowout. Alaska had a trio of skaters tally at least three points while Richard Keyes, Jonathan Shockey and Steve Hildenbrand notched goals for San Diego.
GULLS UPDATE: San Diego (16-14-4) enters the day third in the Pacific Division with 36 points, two behind the second-place Long Beach Ice Dogs and 10 back of the front-running Fresno Falcons... The Gulls are six points ahead of the fourth-place Bakersfield Condors, but Bakersfield has five games in hand... San Diego has played two fewer games than Long Beach... The Gulls broke a two-game losing streak last night with a 6-3 win against Bakersfield... Since getting off to a 1-5-0 start, they are 15-9-4 in their last 28 games... During the last eight games, the Gulls have killed 55 of 64 penalties (86 percent)... They have scored five short-handed goals during that span... San Diego is 9-5-3 at home... Including tonight, five of its next six games are at home...
PLAYER NOTES: Hildenbrand has a five-game point streak and has 31 points (12g, 19a) in the last 24 games... Keyes has 28 points (10g, 18a) in the last 24 games... Jesse Bennefield has 25 points (13g, 12a) in the last 16 games... Pierre-Luc Sleigher has points in seven of the last eight games and has 13 points in that span (4g, 9a)... Tyler Weiman has won six of his last eight decisions and has stopped 248 of 266 shots in that span (.932 save percentage). He is also the reigning ECHL Goaltender of the Week...
ALASKA UPDATE: Alaska (27-5-3) starts the day second in the West Division with 57 points, two behind the first-place Las Vegas Wranglers. The Aces, however, have played two fewer games than Las Vegas... Alaska owns the best winning percentage in the ECHL (.814)... The Aces are unbeaten in regulation in 22 of their last 24 games (21-2-1)... Ryan Ramsay, Alex Leavitt and Joe Talbot combined for 11 points in Sunday's 6-3 win against the Gulls... Alaska and Reading are tied for the most road wins in the ECHL (13)...
TRANSACTIONS: Doug MacIver was activated from the injured list yesterday after missing 22 games with a knee sprain... Mark Wires was acquired Monday from Phoenix in exchange for Chet Ferreira... Darren Partch was released Monday... Alex Kim, who has a broken collar bone, was placed on the injured list Sunday... Alex Rogosheske, torn ACL, was transferred to the 30-day injured list Sunday... David Svagrovsky (tear in finger), Guillaume Fournier (concussion) and Andy Thompson (recovering from wrist surgery) also remain on the injured list... Cody McLeod remains with Lowell of the American Hockey League...
