First Annual Ace Bailey Classic Tees Off Tomorrow

October 14, 2002 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Manchester Monarchs News Release

Manchester, NH- The first annual Ace Bailey Golf Classic is set to begin with an 11:00 shotgun start on Tuesday, October 15 at the Manchester Country Club in Bedford, New Hampshire. The tournament, which will be hosted by the Monarchs Care Foundation, the charitable arm of the Manchester Monarchs, will feature several hockey celebrities and the 2002-03 Manchester Monarchs.

Former Boston Bruins and two-time Stanley Cup Champions Gerry Cheevers and Ken Hodge will be attending tomorrow's Classic, along with former Bruins Brad Park, Gord Kluzak, and Rick Middleton. The tournament will also include Los Angeles Kings Senior Vice President and General Manager Dave Taylor.

The Ace Bailey Golf Classic is a tribute to former Bruins great Garnett "Ace" Bailey, who was the Director of Pro Scouting for the L.A. Kings from 1995-2001. Bailey was a passenger aboard United Flight 175 on September 11, 2001 and was lost in the tragic events of that day. The goal of the event is to raise money for the Ace Bailey Children's Fund and the Monarchs Care Foundation, while celebrating Ace's life and preserving his memory. The Fund's first project will be to build "Ace's Place," a 6,000 square foot, professionally staffed playroom for hospitalized children.

Tournament registration starts at 10 a.m. at the Manchester Country Club. WMUR sports personalities Charlie Sherman and Jamie Staton will emcee the event, which will include a live raffle, a silent auction, and an awards dinner.
