Hartford Civic Center to Unveil New Curtaining System
October 14, 2002 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Connecticut Whale News Release
Hartford, CT, October 14, 2002 - The Hartford Civic Center, with the support of the Connecticut Development Authority, has continually looked at ways to grow business, entertain guests and improve every aspect of the venue. This off-season, the Civic Center worked in conjunction with i.weiss co., a curtain specialist group (curtain, rigging and theatrical supplies) that has developed a unique curtaining system that will reduce the capacity of the venue. The benefits of this system are two-fold: to attract family shows and concerts that otherwise would not consider a building of our large size, and to improve the guest experience at events where attendance is less than full capacity of the arena.
The curtain system, developed by the Civic Center in conjunction with the Hartford Wolf Pack, will also bring guests closer to the action and provide a more intimate atmosphere for the fans, entertainers and players. The new seating configuration accommodates 9,819 seats. The new curtains, 18ft. in height, will adorn blue and purple colors with gold highlights and will hang in the 200 level on both the north and south sides of the venue, starting at row G. The decision to cordon off the 200 rather than the 300 level was operational, to offer greater versatility for a wider array of events.
The new configuration will make its debut this weekend as the Hartford Wolf Pack open their sixth season against the Manchester Monarchs on Saturday night at 7:05pm.
The Hartford Civic Center Veterans Memorial Coliseum is Connecticut's largest sports and entertainment facility. Managed by Madison Square Garden since 1997, the arena is home to the Hartford Wolf Pack (AHL affiliate of the New York Rangers), and the home away from home for the University of Connecticut men and women's basketball programs, providing top concerts, family shows and sporting events. Madison Square Garden is a part of Madison Square Garden, L.P. Cablevision Systems Corporation owns a majority interest in MSG L.P., which includes the New York Knicks (NBA), the New York Rangers (NHL), the New York Liberty (WNBA), the MSG Network, FOX Sports Net, Radio City Entertainment, and the Madison Square Garden arena complex, located in the heart of the New York Metropolitan area.
