ABOUT LAST GAME: The Fireflies defeated the Legends for a second straight night with a 6-3 victory on Monday. Yeizo Campos hurled four effective innings right out of the gates and Darwin Ramos later followed with a three solid frames. The latter picked up his first win on the season. The offense stayed hot and tallied 11 more hits (now 20 over the last two games).
UMBRELLA: Rain has played a factor for the Fireflies over the last couple days.
- The series opener between Columbia and Asheville was postponed on Wednesday due to rain. These teams will play a doubleheader on Thursday. It'll be just the second twin bill of the season for the Fireflies.
- Also, due to rain, Tuesday's contest against Lexington at Whitaker Bank Ballpark was cancelled. The game will not be made up because the Fireflies and Legends do not meet again in 2018.
POWER SURGE: The Fireflies tallied 20 hits in a shortened two-game series against Lexington. In fact, on Monday, Columbia blasted seven extra-base hits (four doubles, three homers), a new season high.
POWER SURGE, Pt. II: Columbia whacked three more homers in Monday's game against Lexington. The Fireflies have now gone yard seven times in two days. On Sunday, Columbia smashed four home runs, which tied a franchise record for a single game:
- June 24, 2018: Raphael Gladu, Edgardo Fermin, Quinn Brodey, Blake Tiberi
- May 24, 2016: Luis Ortega, Dash Winningham, Ivan Wilson, Kevin Kaczmarski
FERM-TASTIC: Shortstop Edgardo Fermin recorded three more hits on Monday and has now hit safely in nine straight games. The 20-year-old is hitting .378 (14-for-37) over the nine-game hit streak (since June 14). Fermin has smoked six extra-base hits in that span and five RBIs.
PROMOTED: RHP Stephen Villines was promoted to Advanced-A St. Lucie on June 24, 2018. Villines recorded 54 strikeouts and only walked five batters in 33.1 innings for Columbia out of the bullpen. The former Kansas Jayhawk also earned six saves. Villines was one six Fireflies named to the 2018 South Atlantic League All-Star Game.
