Greenville Drive News Release
North Augusta, SC - The Greenville Drive took advantage of a late-inning error by the Augusta GreenJackets to come away with a 5-3 victory in game two of Thursday's twin bill.
With the score tied at 3-3 in the top of the sixth, Michael Osinski reached on a fielder's choice and Pedro Castellanos singled. Everlouis Lozada's two-out fly ball off Tyler Schimpf (2-2) in the frame was misplayed in left field, bringing home both runners and giving the Drive (3-5, 28-49) the lead.
The runs made a winner out of Drive starter Jhonathan Diaz (3-5), who allowed just one earned run over five innings while striking out seven. Devon Fisher shut down the GreenJackets (3-5, 40-36) in two innings of relief to notch his third save.
Augusta took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on an RBI triple by Jacob Gonzalez, but the Drive went ahead 2-1 in the second on a wild pitch and an RBI single by Lozada.
Campana's solo homer in the third was his 13th of the season, and his second of the day, to extend the Drive lead to 3-1. The GreenJackets then tied the game in the bottom half after a Drive error eventually led to RBI hits by Gonzalez and Nick Hill.
The first action of the day saw the GreenJackets come back to defeat the Drive 6-5 in the resumption of Wednesday's suspended game. Already leading 1-0 in the bottom of the fourth, Augusta received RBI hits from Logan Baldwin and Manuel Geraldo to push the lead to 3-0.
The Drive roared back with five runs in the sixth to go ahead. Frankie Rios hit an RBI triple in the frame, and that was followed by Lozada's RBI groundout. The big blow of the inning was Campana's three-run blast to left-center field.
Augusta came to within one run on a bases loaded walk in the seventh, and Heliot Ramos delivered a go-ahead two-run homer off Marcos Lantigua (0-7).
Olbis Parra (2-4) got the win in relief for Augusta in the opener.
The series wraps up on Friday night in North Augusta with a 7:05 first pitch. Right-hander Denyi Reyes (5-3, 2.04) takes the mound for the Drive, and the GreenJackets will counter with right-hander Aaron Phillips (2-3, 5.67).
