ABOUT LAST GAME: The Fireflies scored in the first inning, led wire-to-wire and won again on Saturday, 8-2, over West Virginia. Columbia also accomplished that the first two games of the series. In his first start as a Firefly, Gaby Almonte allowed one unearned run in six innings and picked up the win.
FIRED UP: Columbia has outscored West Virginia 23-6 in the first three games of the series. It's the most prolific three-game stretch of the season for the Fireflies in terms of run differential.
WHAT'S AT STAKE: The Fireflies can notch the franchise's first four-game home sweep with a win on Sunday.
ALL THE WAY UP: Jeff Diehl had his best night at the plate on Saturday. The right fielder finished with a walk, a double and an opposite-field two-run home run. Diehl's home run is arguably the longest at Spirit Communications Park this season, clearing the wall past the 382-foot sign in right-center field by a wide margin.
THE SIENA EFFECT: Vinny Siena scored another run for Columbia on Saturday. The second baseman is first in the South Atlantic League with 49 runs scored. The Fireflies are 25-6 when Siena scores a run in a game. The SAL All-Star has proved to be the ultimate table setter this season:
Leading Off an Inning: .355 (22-62)
First Inning of Games: .449 (22-49), 13 Runs, 6 BB
Siena has scored in the first inning the last three games.
THE OTHER GUYS: Bret Helton starts for the Power on Sunday afternoon. The right-hander's father is Barry Helton, the former All-American punter at Colorado and two-time Super Bowl champion with the San Francisco 49ers (1988, 1989).
DOGGY BITE: Sunday's originally scheduled 'Bark in the Park' has been postponed to July 5.
