At 5:38, Adam Ruzicka (Calgary Flames) scored his 33rd of the season on the second shot of the game on Garrett Forrest, assisted by Huntington Woods, Mich. native Drake Rymsha (Los Angeles Kings) and Jordan Kyrou. It was Ruzicka's 11th power-play goal of the campaign.

Then, Kyrou took a pass in the high slot and fired a mid-height goal just inside the post to the blocker side of Forrest at 10:49. It was Kyrou's second goal and third point of the night. Ruzicka picked up his second point of the night with the first assist and Hugo Leufvenius claimed the second helper, as the deficit reached 4 - 0 for the Firebirds.

Near the end of the third period, there were two quick goals and a scrap all within one minute of game clock. The Jalen Smereck and Sarnia's Sean Josling had a heated physical confrontation in the Flint end. Smereck was ejected from the game, in addition to picking up the extra penalty that left the Sting with another man-advantage. Two seconds after play resumed, Kyrou claimed a hat trick with his third goal and fifth point of the contest on a shot off the face off draw. Ruzicka was given his third assist and fourth point of night.

With 40 minutes in the books, The Firebirds trailed 6 - 0. Shots on goal favored the Sting 14 - 9 for a two-period total of 20 - 14.
