Owen Sound Attack News Release

The Owen Sound Attack and the Barrie Colts hooked up for the latest edition of the Highway 26 rivalry on Sunday afternoon at the Bayshore.

Unlike the last couple of games this afternoon's first period seemed to be slow going for the Attack, unable to get a cycle going for much of the first period. They did however generate opportunities off the rush with the Colts Kai Edmonds having to make 4 solid saves to keep the Attack off the scoreboard. On the other side of the puck the Colts seemed to control much of the play in the Attack zone generating turnovers and forcing Olivier Lafreniere into some tough in tight saves several times throughout the period. The period ended with a scoreless tie.

The second period began with an abbreviated Attack power play and despite some great opportunities Edmonds was able to keep the Attack from notching their first goal of the game. The Colts picked back up their play after the successful penalty kill taking the play to the Attack for the next couple of minutes. However, it was the Attack that would dominate the remainder of the period generating several scoring chances, but were unable to convert on any second chance opportunities. The Attack outshot the Colts 22-9 in the second frame.

The third period opened with some back and forth play with both teams being denied the opportunity to open the scoring in the first three minutes. The Attack trio of Dudas, Sushko and Szypula executed a smooth tic-tac-toe passing play only to be stopped by Edmonds, while Lafreniere made a huge blocker save on Aaron Luchuk after he and Alexei Svechnikov had their own give and go play to get past the Attack defender.

Minutes later the Attack were put down a man when Cole Cameron hooked up Dmitry Sokolov in the slot. A minute into the penalty kill Lafreniere made two stops in quick succession on Joey Keane. Unfortunately, Keane got the puck back behind the Attack net and quickly threw it to Jaden Peca in front who made no mistake putting the Colts up 1-0 just before the halfway point of the 3rd. The Attack continued to press but were stymied by Edmonds at the other end.

Lucas Chiodo would get his first of two on the night at the 10:38 mark when he slip one past Lafreniere on the short side to make it 2-0. Less than a minute later, Sokolov, increased the Colts lead to 3-0 thanks to a nice pass from Aaron Luchuk.

The Attack continued to push, opting to pull Lafreniere with 2:50 to go in the game, but despite their strong pressure the puck squirted loose at the blue line springing Chiodo free for his second of the afternoon to make it 4-0 with the empty net goal and that is how it would finish.

Next week the Attack will hit the ice for 3 games in 4 days starting with a trip to Erie to take on the Otters on Thursday, March 1st at 7pm, then return home on Saturday, March 3rd to take on the Guelph Storm. This game time has been changed to 2pm as it will be carried live on Sportsnet as part of the CHL on Sportsnet Saturday Showcase. The Attack will finish off the weekend with a trip to Sarnia to take on the Sting on Sunday, March 4th with puck drop set for 2:05pm.

Tickets for all upcoming home games are limited and can be purchased at the MacVicar & McComb ReMax Attack Box Office.
