Reading Fightin Phils News Release

The R-Phils lost game five of the series 13-6 to the Binghamton Rumble Ponies on Saturday, despite them smashing 11 hits, five being for extra bases. Jorge Bonifacio, Daniel Brito and Josh Stephen all smoked balls over the fence in the contest.

Adam Leverett(L, 0-1) looked to begin his Double-A debut, sitting down the Rumble Ponies 1-2-3 in the first. In the second, Binghamton took a three-run advantage on a pair of errors from Reading, making the score 3-0 after two.

Brito delivered the first hit and run of the game in the third, as he launched his second homer of the year to make it 3-1.

The 3-1 became 4-1 when Yoel Romero hit a solo homerun of his own in the fourth, and then 6-1 after an RBI double from Carlos Cortes and a sacrifice fly from Will Toffey in the fifth.

The R-Phils began chipping away in the bottom half when Bryson Stott shot a single through the right side of the infield to bring in Sal Gozzo. Bonifacio then made it a 6-3 game with a sacrifice fly that brought in Brito

The Ponies added three more in the top of the sixth, and then another four in the seventh to increase their lead to 13-3.

The Fightins showed their lack of quit in the bottom of the seventh, as Stott lead off with a long fly ball missing a homerun by a matter of inches, but turning it into a triple with aggressive baserunning. Bonifacio brought him in on a two-run blast, and then Stephen smashed a solo shot of his own to make it 13-6.

Reliever Andrew Brown had a big shutdown inning in the eighth, striking out the side in his second inning of work. Then, Jonathan Hennigan pitched a scoreless ninth, which now gives the left hander three scoreless innings in the series.

Despite the late relievers keeping the Fightins in striking range, Reading would stay off the board in the final two frames, dropping this one 13-6.
