June 26, 2021 - Eastern League (EL)
Akron RubberDucks News Release
A late inning offensive outburst from Erie buried any hope of a RubberDucks comeback on Saturday Night as the SeaWolves ran away with the game late, 10-5.
Turning Point
Erie started off the game hot when second batter of the game Ryan Kreidler launched a 435-foot solo home run beyond the wall in the FirstEnergy Power Alley. The SeaWolves offense would keep adding on when Kerry Carpenter hit a sac-fly to score Spencer Torkleson before a Josh Lester single scored Dillon Dingler to make it 3-0 Erie and give them the lead they would never surrender.
Mound Presence
Thomas Ponticelli got the start for Akron and was roughed up early surrendering three runs in the first inning. Ponticelli would settle down and toss two scoreless before the Erie bats got him for two runs in the fourth and one more in the sixth. In total, Ponticelli went 5.1 innings allowing six runs on seven hits while striking out four. Skylar Arias would follow and shut the Erie bats down striking out three over a hitless 1.2 innings. Juan Mota would toss an inning and two thirds allowing four runs while striking out one. Kyle Marman would finish the game by tossing a third of an inning.
Duck Tales
Akron got a run back after an early Erie rally when Will Benson singled home Andruw Monasterio in the second inning to make it 3-1 SeaWolves. In the fifth, Alex Call launched a solo home run to cut the lead down to 5-1 Erie. Akron would close the gap even more in the sixth when Jonathan Engelmann doubled home Monasterio followed by a Jose Fermin RBI ground out. The inning was capped by a Benson sac-fly to make it 6-5 Erie. However, that was the closest Akron would get in the game despite a myriad of opportunities late in the ballgame. The RubberDucks left 8 on base and were 2-for-6 with runners in scoring position.
