Fighting Saints Split Series with Lumberjacks

Dubuque Fighting Saints News Release
MUSKEGON, Mich. - Two quick goals in the first period of Saturday night's contest led the way in a 5-3 Dubuque Fighting Saints victory over the Muskegon Lumberjacks at the L.C. Walker Arena. The victory snapped Muskegon's five-game winning streak, and goaltender Joey Daccord's two-game shutout streak.
In fact, it took just over three minutes for that streak to come to an end. Colin Theisen streaked in on a dish from Petter Mî=A4kitalo and snapped a shot off the left wing to put the Fighting Saints up 1-0. It didn't take much longer for Casey Johnson to keep the scoring going, putting Dubuque up two.
Both the first period and second period were identical in scoring, as Dubuque scored two goals in both frames, and Muskegon responded with a goal of their own in that time period as well.
Chris Klack and Dante Palecco cut Dubuque's lead to one with goals of their own, responding to Johnson and Keegan Ford's goals. But it was Trey Dodd's wraparound goal following a highlight-reel save by Hunter Miska through Daccord that chased him in favor of backup Devin Cooley, who shut the door the rest of the way.
Muskegon netted a late power play goal from Dallas Stars draft pick Matej Paulovic, on a slick dish from Rem Pitlick, with the goalie pulled in favor of the extra attacker. The Lumberjacks would take a late penalty with two minutes flush on the clock, and that wiped out any opportunity for them to come back.
Evan Smith iced the game for the Fighting Saints with his sixth goal of the season into the empty net, unassisted.
A penalty-filled game saw both teams accumulate 28 penalty minutes, and both sides score twice on the power play. Dubuque notched two goals on three opportunities, and Muskegon tallied on two of five chances on the man advantage.
Miska earned his league-leading tenth win of the season while making 35 stops on 38 shots. Dubuque pumped 45 shots on goal in the victory.
The Fighting Saints head to Green Bay to take on the Gamblers on Wednesday, November 25 at 7:05 p.m. Join all of the action on Dubuque's Super Hits 106.1 FM. Before moving into a back-to-back with the Chicago Steel on Friday and Saturday.
Saturday's home game at the Mystique Community Ice Center marks the Celebration of No Shave November, sponsored by UnityPoint Health Finley Hospital. Proceeds from the postgame auction of special, one-of-a-kind jerseys will benefit the Finley Health Foundation and the Wendt Regional Cancer Center, raising funds for men's cancer initiatives. The game will start a special time, 6:05 p.m.
