Fighting Saints Snap Lumberjacks Five Game Win Streak

Muskegon, MI - The Dubuque Fighting Saints snapped the Muskegon Lumberjacks five game win streak tonight by a score of 5-3.

The Fighting Saints set the tone early with two goals scored by Colin Theisen and Casey Johnson, giving the Fighting Saints a lead 2-0 midway through the first period. The Lumberjacks cut the deficit in half when Chris Klack knocked in a rebound for his second goal of the season. Mitch Eliot and Collin Adams picked up the assists on the goal.

In the second period, the Fighting Saints took another two-goal lead when Keegan Ford scored a power play goal, the first power play goal against the Lumberjacks since October 31st. The Lumberjacks cut into the deficit again when Dante Palecco scored his second goal of the season. Laine McKay and Will Graber tallied the assists on the goal. However, the Lumberjacks went into the locker room down 4-2 when Trey Dodd scored a wrap around goal late in the second period to give the Fighting Saints the two goal lead.

The Lumberjacks battled back again, when Matej Paulovic scored a power play goal with 2:32 left in regulation to make it 4-3. Rem Pitlick and Chris Klack picked up the assists on the goal. The Lumberjacks tried to complete the comeback, but an empty net goal ended the night, and the Lumberjacks fell 5-3 to the Fighting Saints, ending their five game win streak.

The Lumberjacks (7-7) look to bounce back with three games next week. On Wednesday, the Lumberjacks travel to Youngstown to take on the Youngstown Phantoms. Then, they will return home for a weekend series against the Tri-City Storm. Be sure to make it out to L.C. Walker arena Friday, for dollar beer dollar dog night, and Saturday for Red Wings Night. Puck drop is at 7:15 P.M.
