Capitols Look for Third Straight Triumph over Steel

Madison Capitols News Release
Geneva, IL - The Madison Capitols (7-8-0-0) will look to complete a four-point weekend as they visit the Chicago Steel (5-9-2-1) on Saturday at the Fox Valley Ice Arena in Geneva, Ill.
After dropping all but one meeting against the Steel in 2014-15, the Capitols have rebounded to take each of the first two games of the 2015-16 season series with Chicago, winning on home ice by final scores of 3-2 and 2-1 on Oct. 23 and Oct. 25 respectively.
Sam McCormick was the hero in the last meeting, potting the game's winning goal with just under 90 seconds to play in regulation. The Steel, under first-year head coach Dan Muse, had a rough go to start their season, going 3-8-0-0 in their first 11 games. However, Chicago has bounced back nicely, registering points in the standings in five of their last six games. The Steel's Achilles heel has been overtime, where they have already dropped three games that went beyond 60 minutes, including a 3-2 decision on Friday night against Bloomington on home ice.
On the other side, Madison snapped a season-high five-game losing streak on Friday, knocking off the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders, 2-1, at the Alliant Energy Center. First-year goaltender Ryan Edquist was sensational once again, stopping 27 shots while improving his league-best save percentage to a sparkling .939 mark. The Lakeville, Minn. native also boasts a rookie-best 2.11 goals-against average through his first seven USHL appearances this year.
On the offensive side, Madison finally snapped a power play drought that dated back to Oct. 16 as Tommy Muck broke off the Capitols' streak after 27 straight unconverted power plays. Charlie Gerard added his sixth goal of the season in the final frame for the game winning tally, Madison's first victory since Oct. 25.
Madison earned both its victories over Chicago in October against fellow first-year USHL goaltender Daniel Vladar, who has yielded the net to veteran John Lethemon in each of Chicago's past four games. Garrett Metcalf picked up each of the Capitols' victories over Chicago, giving up just three goals in two games while posting a .950 save percentage.
Madison enters play on Saturday night sitting in seventh in a tightly packed USHL Eastern Conference. Despite sitting out of playoff positioning at the present day, the Capitols still see themselves only seven points back of first-place Green Bay.
Coverage of Madison's tilt with Chicago on Saturday will kick off at 7 p.m. on 106.7 FM, 1670 AM, The Zone, online at www.madcitysportszone.com, and on the TuneIn radio app.
