
Fightin Phils denied late comeback

The Fightin Phils (16-13) began the game with a lead then switched rolls in trying to come back late as it wouldn't be enough against the Harrisburg Senators (12-18) losing 6-3. Jesse Biddle earned his first loss of the season.
Roman Quinn got things rolling for the Fightin Phils in the top of the first inning off Senators starter Richard Bleier as he scored on a throwing error from catcher Pedro Severino to give them a 1-0 lead. He scored after stealing third-base. Aaron Altherr extended the lead to 2-0 as he hit a solo home run off Bleier. Harrisburg scored a run off Biddle in the bottom of the second inning as Pedro Severino hit a RBI single to score right fielder Keven Keyes.
Harrisburg got after Biddle in the bottom of the fifth inning as they scored three runs to take a 4-2 lead. Gustavo Pierre committed his fifth error of the season which allowed a run to score. Harrisburg extended their lead to 6-2 in the bottom of the seventh inning off reliever Anthony Vasquez.
Jesse Biddle (3-1) pitched six innings and allowed four runs off seven hits with three walks and three strikeouts. Anthony Vasquez allowed two runs (one earned) off two hits with one walk in two innings in relief. Gustavo Pierre hit a RBI single in the top of the ninth inning off reliever Hector Ambriz to extend his hitting streak to nine games and cut the Senators lead to 6-3.
The Fightin Phils continue their series with the Harrisburg Senators on Tuesday. First pitch is at 6:30 pm. Fans can listen to the game on CBS Sports Radio 1240 AM/98-5 FM and fightins.com beginning at 6:00 pm.
