Winnipeg Goldeyes News Release
WINNIPEG, MB - Lincoln Saltdogs (16-17) starting pitcher Tanner Brown (1-4) earned his first professional win limiting the Winnipeg Goldeyes (13-20) to one run over 6 2/3 innings in a 7-1 win. Brown struck out six and walked five as he allowed three hits.
Winnipeg jumped on the board in the third inning. With two outs and nobody on, shortstop Andy Armstrong doubled which set the table for right fielder Max Murphy who followed with a run-producing two-base hit to right field. Murphy has a team-high 27 RBI's.
The Goldeyes were up 1-0 going to the fifth and then the Saltdogs broke the game open with six runs. Second baseman Will Kengor led off with a single. Right fielder Carson Maxwell followed with a single which set the table for catcher Luke Roskam (3, 4). He swatted a 1-0 pitch over the right field wall near the foul pole for a three-run clout which made it 3-1 Lincoln. The Saltdogs would add against Winnipeg starter Joey Matulovich (0-4) with a sacrifice fly by shortstop Drew Devine and a two-out two-run double by first baseman Yanio Perez. Roskam added a homer in the eighth inning. It was his first two-homer game of the season. Every Saltdog in the lineup reached base safely.
Matulovich worked five innings, issued six hits, six runs (all earned). The right-hander walked three and struck out five.
One of the few bright spots for Winnipeg was the Goldeyes debut of right-hander Brent Burgess. The twin brother of Winnipeg catcher Chris Burgess was signed on Wednesday. He lasted 1 2/3, walked two and struck out two.
The second game of this scheduled three-game series will be on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. Right-hander Zach Keenan (1-0) will pitch for Lincoln against Winnipeg righty Luis Ramirez (2-3).
